Critical Questions:
1) How do we shift from "content consumption" to "content creation?"
2) How do we manage these powerful content creation devices?
Goals
- We were asked to anticipate, research, implement/experiment, observe, reflect, revise, share
- Establish "best practices" for managing multiple (4) iPads BEFORE the (30) iPads arrive for the Middle School Social Studies iPad carts (COWs)
Why iPads?
- 2010-11 grant monies were donated by JH to MS Social Studies iPad purchases
- 2011-12 MLEA grant application incorporated multiple iPads into 21st century learning
- HDTVs/AppleTV devices work in conjunction with iPads (Tech Dept/Social Studies Dept. show support for 21st century learning)(Allows for the student input to now share equal footing with teacher input)
- Microphones and camera connectors purchased with grant monies to use with iPads for collaboration with Saturday Light Brigade... perhaps Lebo50/50 & Historical Society cemetery project
Technical Setup
- Distribute iPads, Otterbox cases, chargers/USB cords to colleagues at each middle school, and if needed, support iTunes account setup
- Develop uniform number system for multiple iPads across classrooms
- Add Otterbox cases and create an area/routine for charging
- Setup iTunes account and update to iOS5
- Install apps; purchased Garageband and iMovie
- Issue: Do we use email accounts to identify each iPad for communication purposes (FaceTime, iMessage, etc)?
- Issue: How to use Dropbox account? How to manage files?
- Explore: Two operating systems (King will sync with MacBook Pro/Holliday will sync with Windows device)
- iPad carts arrive with lock/key but no iPads (we foresee a need for a MacBook to accompany each iPad cart for management of content created by devices, especially since a configuration app was created.)
- We foresee a need for large amounts of data storage due to the volume of content being created each day (pics, video, etc)
